Reducing Cancellations and Optimising Theatre Usage with Digital Perioperative Pathways
If you missed this session or want to revisit the insights, the full recording is now available below.
In this webinar, NHS Lanarkshire shares how it has leveraged digital perioperative pathways to drive measurable operational improvements: Reducing surgical cancellations by 30% and cutting physical pre-operative assessment visits by 45%.
In this UKDHC Summer Series webinar, Consultant Anaesthetists Dr François Taljard and Dr Shona McConnell revealed how NHS Lanarkshire has significantly enhanced surgical efficiency and theatre productivity by implementing digital perioperative care.
Facilitated by Professor W. Angus Wallace, the session explored the trust’s adoption of Elsie, a digital care coordination platform designed to streamline perioperative workflows, improve patient preparation, and boost staff efficiency.
A standout result shared in the session: a 30% reduction in surgery cancellations since introducing the platform. This has led to substantial cost savings, better theatre utilisation, and more effective allocation of surgical resources.
Through real-world outcomes and practical insights, the speakers illustrated how digital patient pathways and automated processes directly support healthcare organisations in achieving operational excellence and enabling remote work while improving patient outcomes.
Developed by Buddy Healthcare, Elsie supports NHS trusts in streamlining perioperative care and reducing cancellations.
