Use fully automated processes to collect pre-operative assessments from your patients easily and speed up surgical readiness and administrative tasks.
Fewer pre-operative phone calls
Reduction in time spent per patient preoperatively
Lower cancellation and did not attend rates
Electronic pre-operative assessment to support the recovery of elective surgery
Electronic pre-operative assessment services can play a vital role in the recovery of elective surgery. Pre-operative assessment of low-risk patients can be done faster and more efficiently with the help of digital solutions.
Digitally collecting pre-operative assessments is convenient and effective for both patients and care teams. Patients can enter their data at their own pace ahead of appointments. Remote vetting is much more efficient and agile for the care personnel, thus eliminating unnecessary inquiries, optimising the use of resources and reducing costs.
Electronic pre-operative assessment enables sharing automatically timed information with patients such as fasting or medication instructions, appointment reminders, videos, or important website links through a smartphone or a tablet.
A digitised pre-operative process enhances pre-operative assessment clinic efficiency, optimises waiting list management, reduces unnecessary pre-operative hospital visits, helps in filling surgical slots, and allows patient care at the right time and place.
How does the electronic pre-operative assessment work?
The care coordination platform automatically educates and reminds patients about upcoming tasks and the patient is always aware of what the next steps need to be taken or which tasks need to be completed.
Mobile App helps patients in pre-operative preparations:
- Provides information about the procedure.
- Shares pre-operative assessment or other forms/questionnaires.
- Provides a procedure checklist.
- Shares educational videos, photos, and links.
- Reminds of fasting instructions or which medications to stop.
- Provides secure, two-way messaging between patients and care teams.
Care teams can see with a single view if patients have:
- Have read all education.
- Submitted preoperative assessments or other questionnaires.
- Followed dietary and medication instructions.
- Been compliant and are “fit for surgery.”
- Uncompleted tasks or their engagement decreases (Dashboard notifies when necessary).
Filling surgical slots by identifying flexible patients:
- Collects forms and health data from patients.
- Visualises patient data for the care team.
- Helps to identify fit patients ready for surgery with short notice to fill cancelled surgery slots.
- Supports hospitals’ efforts to process the backlog of elective surgeries by optimising operating theatres.
Mobile App supports surgery preparations
As part of the digitised process, pre-operative assessment patients are guided and educated through a digital care pathway via a mobile App whilst preparing for their surgery. Patients receive timed notifications and tasks, including a digital pre-operative assessment form. Timed care pathways with automated reminders improve patient compliance and experience.
The process helps hospitals to identify patients that don't need to come to Hospital, reducing the Clinical time required per patient, increasing workforce efficiency, and supporting the effort to make surgery waiting list management more efficient by automating patient communication and data collection during the patient journey.
Remote patient monitoring and assessment
With Buddy Healthcare's electronic pre-operative assessment platform, the surgical teams in hospitals can remotely assess and monitor patients' progress and surgical readiness.
The care teams use the clinical dashboard to gather and visualise patients' submitted health data. The Clinical Dashboard allows the care teams to manage a clinic or department of patients and monitor progress. It notifies of uncompleted tasks or reduces engagement when necessary.
Filling surgical slots by identifying flexible patients
The BuddyCare digital platform can help hospitals to fill surgical slots caused by late cancellations. With the patients' submitted and visualised data, hospital care teams can quickly and easily identify fit patients ready for surgery with short notice to fill cancelled surgery slots.
The digital pre-operative assessment process supports hospitals' efforts to process the backlog of elective surgeries postponed due to COVID-19 by a more efficient Pre-operative process and helps to optimise the use of operating theatres.
Electronic Pre-operative Assessment for:
Lower cancellation and did not attend rates through more efficient patient education and remote patient monitoring.
Helps to identify fit patients ready for surgery with short notice to fill cancelled surgery slots.
Reduces administrative burden and costs through faster and more efficient remote vetting.
Accessibility of patient information by multiple users within different departments and specialties.
Easy tracking of patient flow all the way to surgery.
Reduction of letters, paper records, phone calls, and costs through digitised pre-operative assessment process.
More efficient and smooth digital surgery waiting list management.
Electronic pre-operative assessment can be done remotely at home conveniently through the App.
It provides a simple way for patients to update the hospital through questionnaires when there are changes in their condition.
Timed instructions and reminders guide through the care process.
All care-related materials are available 24/7 in the App.
Patients in a location and at a time of their choosing can submit assessment forms and questionnaires from their mobile device, as this is monitored and managed in the Clinical Dashboard.
Patients and care teams can send secure messages through the platform when needed.
NHS Lanarkshire's electronic pre-operative assessment process optimises patient flow and helps fill surgical slots
Working with Buddy Healthcare, NHS Lanarkshire hospital Board has launched “Elsie”, its new ePreOp digital platform. Elsie was designed to replace the previous resource-heavy “paper-based” system, which required every patient, no matter their fitness for surgery, to attend a hospital appointment to answer questions with a nurse.
With Buddy Healthcare's electronic pre-operative assessment platform, the surgical teams in three NHS Lanarkshire hospitals can now remotely assess and monitor patients' progress and surgical readiness.
The care teams use the clinical dashboard to gather and visualise patients' submitted health data. The clinical dashboard allows the care teams to manage a clinic or department of patients and monitor progress. It notifies of uncompleted tasks or reduced engagement when necessary.
"Before COVID-19 there was an 8 week wait for patients to get a pre-operative assessment appointment. We were very short staffed and our processes while very robust, were very old fashioned. Everything was on paper, whereas the rest of the hospital is digital. This has been an enormous project for our team across Lanarkshire, easily the biggest innovation we have seen in the last twenty years."
