How NHS Fife digitised its pre-operative assessment process
Consultant anaesthetist and perioperative physician Neil Shaw from NHS Fife outlined why the health board had deployed a digital platform so patients could complete pre-op assessments at home using a mobile app. Clinical teams could focus appointments on the patients who needed them, theatres could make the best use of scarce capacity, and patient feedback was excellent.

The impact of digital follow-up on patients with coronary heart disease
Head of Heart Center, Consultant cardiologist Tuomas Rissanen, explained why the North Karelia Central Hospital in Finland implemented digital tools for preparing patients for coronary angiography procedures and for remote follow-up of coronary artery disease patients after the procedure. The key aims were to identify patients with a possible risk of secondary prevention and collect data such as QoL and PROMs questionnaires to enable remote monitoring while patients were at home.
