How we started Buddy Healthcare?

Hi buddies! In our previous post:  What Buddy Healthcare is? We briefly introduced our team, so go ahead and read it if you haven’t done so yet. And today, we will share the story of how we started the company.

Once upon a time… Well, let’s keep it a bit shorter… So, it all started when the CEO of Buddy Healthcare, Jussi Määttä, was on a trip in the US when he was still working for his previous company as business developer. Jussi had a plan to sell existing solutions to one pediatric hospital there, but things didn’t go as planned. However, the hospital identified some challenges that their new Outpatient Surgery Centre was facing: a large number of expensive surgeries, no automated or digitised post-surgical patient pathways, a high number of no-shows and cancellations... Hmm, thought Jussi, sounds like a major business opportunity, doesn’t it? After that trip, Jussi did some research and found out that those challenges are global: a lot of hospitals have a gulley between patients and care personnel, where they are trying to build bridges and need help with it. This information definitely called for action! Jussi gathered a superb combination of young talent and experience around him, and this is how Buddy Healthcare was founded in November 2015.

Now you are probably wondering where the name Buddy comes from? We want our mobile app for surgery patients to be like a patient’s buddy: surgeries are a big thing in people’s lives, and your buddy should be there for you when you move through the process.

In the next post, we will go into more detail on how our solution helps our customers drive a 5-star patient experience. Thank you for following us. Feel free to ask us anything in the comments below and stay tuned!
